The Space Community Center exists to create places and opportunities where people can be known, find belonging, grow in healthy relationships, discover their gifts, and use those gifts for the good of others.
We believe healthy communities are built when people have room to explore, create, heal, play, learn, serve, and grow together.
The programs and spaces at The Space may look very different from one another, but they are moving toward some of the same things.
We want people who feel isolated, overlooked, hurting, or disconnected to find meaningful relationships and a community where they are seen, valued, and welcomed.
We want The Space to be a place where people can build healthy relationships across differences — a community where there is room for people from different backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and beliefs.
We want people to have freedom to try something new, discover their gifts, develop confidence, and find meaningful ways to contribute.
We want the things that happen here to contribute to whole-person flourishing — emotionally, relationally, physically, creatively, and spiritually.
We don't want people simply to attend programs. We want people to discover that they have something meaningful to give — to their families, their communities, and one another.
In our governance language, we call the people and communities we exist to serve our Moral Owners.
That's simply a way of reminding ourselves that The Space does not exist primarily for the organization itself.
We especially care about people looking for connection, identity, restoration, belonging, and opportunities to discover and use their gifts. We also care deeply about the health and flourishing of the neighborhoods and communities around us.
The Space is a Christian community, and our faith shapes why we serve. At the same time, we want our surrounding community — including people from other faiths or no faith — to experience The Space as a place where they are welcomed, respected, and valued.
We measure our success by what happens in people and in our community — not simply by how busy our buildings become.
The Space uses a leadership team called Mosaic to help keep the whole Community Center pointed toward these outcomes.
Mosaic's job isn't to manage schedules, choose paint colors, run programs, or make every daily decision.
Mosaic keeps asking the bigger questions:
Are the people and communities we exist to serve actually flourishing?
Are our programs and spaces moving us toward the outcomes we say matter?
Are we staying true to our values?
Are we listening well to the community around us?
Are we becoming the kind of place we said we wanted to become?
Mosaic safeguards our values, Ends, and direction and holds the Director accountable for leading The Space toward them. The Director and staff are then given meaningful freedom to listen, experiment, solve problems, support programs, and lead the everyday life of the Community Center.
Mosaic protects the WHY.
The team is given freedom with the HOW.
And the people and community we serve remain at the center.
